India’s S Jaishankar Welcomes Brazil’s Mauro Vieira for Important Talks

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira on Tuesday. Jaishankar expressed his eagerness for productive discussions during the 9th India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting.

Vieira arrived in New Delhi on Saturday for a four-day official visit, which will last until August 28. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that this visit aims to strengthen the strategic partnership between India and Brazil.

Jaishankar and Vieira will discuss how the two nations, as part of the Troika, can advance key G20 outcomes from India’s G20 Presidency last year. Brazil has taken over the G20 presidency until November 2024 and will host the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro on November 18-19.

The MEA highlighted that India and Brazil share a multifaceted relationship based on shared values. The visit will provide an opportunity to explore new avenues of cooperation in bilateral, regional, and multilateral arenas across various sectors.

In July, Dammu Ravi, Secretary (Economic Relations) in the MEA, led India’s delegation at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro. He emphasized India’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) related to water and sanitation, highlighting programs like Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Jal Jeevan Mission, and AMRUT.
