India’s S Jaishankar Meets China’s New Ambassador Xu Feihong

China’s new Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, met with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday evening to discuss the bilateral relationship between India and China. Jaishankar welcomed Xu and expressed hopes for a successful tenure in a post on X, stating, “Received Ambassador of China Xu Feihong this evening. Discussed our bilateral relationship and our common interest in its stabilization and progress.”

Xu Feihong arrived in New Delhi on May 10 and assumed charge as the 17th Chinese Ambassador to India. He is the first Chinese envoy to India in over 18 months, following the departure of Sun Weidong in October 2022. Xu emphasized the importance of India-China relations, noting that both countries are significant emerging markets and developing nations.

In an interview, Xu expressed his commitment to deepening understanding and friendship between the two peoples, expanding exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and improving the bilateral relationship. He highlighted a quote from President Xi Jinping, “If China and India speak with one voice, the whole world will listen; if the two countries join hands, the whole world will pay attention.”
