India’s S Jaishankar Congratulates Egypt’s New Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke with Egypt’s new Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty on Saturday and congratulated him on his new role. Jaishankar expressed his eagerness to work with Abdelatty, sharing his thoughts on X.

India and Egypt share a rich history and have enjoyed close ties for centuries. Their collaboration spans various domains, including political cooperation on bilateral, regional, and global issues. Since President Sisi’s government took office in June 2014, Jaishankar visited Cairo in August 2015, highlighting the enduring nature of their diplomatic engagements. President Sisi reciprocated with a State Visit to India in January 2023, further cementing the bilateral bond.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Egypt, a special stamp was issued, symbolizing their enduring friendship. Prime Minister Modi’s State Visit to Egypt in June 2023 reinforced these ties, culminating in the conferment of Egypt’s highest civilian award, the ‘Order of the Nile,’ upon him.

On July 23, Jaishankar extended warm greetings to Badr Abdelatty and the people of Egypt on their National Day, underscoring India’s commitment to advancing their strategic alliance. He had previously participated in a commemorative event in New Delhi with Egypt’s Ambassador to India, Wael Hamed, celebrating Egypt’s National Day. During the event, Jaishankar emphasized India’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the bilateral partnership.

Jaishankar described Egypt as a crucial and esteemed strategic partner, conveying his best wishes to Egypt’s leadership and citizens. He highlighted the deepening of ties in recent years, referencing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit as the Chief Guest during India’s 74th Republic Day celebrations in 2023 and Prime Minister Modi’s subsequent official visit to Egypt, which elevated bilateral relations to a strategic level.
