India Launches Rs 1000 Crore Fund for Space Startups
Government’s New Initiative
The Union Cabinet of India, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved a significant initiative to boost the space sector. A Rs 1000 crore Venture Capital Fund has been established under the guidance of IN-SPACe, aiming to support startups in this high-tech field.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the fund will be deployed over a period of up to five years. The average annual deployment is expected to be between Rs 150-250 crore, depending on investment opportunities.

This fund is part of the 2020 space sector reforms and aims to grow India’s space economy from its current value of $8.4 billion to $44 billion by 2033. It addresses the need for risk capital, as traditional lenders are often reluctant to invest in space startups.

With around 250 space startups in India, this government-backed fund will enhance investor confidence and attract private capital. It will operate as an Alternative Investment Fund under SEBI regulations, providing early-stage equity to help startups grow and secure further investments.
