India’s New National Communications Academy Formed by Merging Three Institutes

The Department of Telecommunication in India has announced the formation of the National Communications Academy (NCA). This new entity is created by merging three existing training institutes: the National Telecommunications Institute for Policy Research, Innovation and Training (NTIPRIT), the National Institute of Communication Finance (NICF), and the Wireless Monitoring Training & Development Centre (WMTDC).

The merger was approved by the Ministry of Communication based on recommendations from the Committee for Organisational Reforms. The NCA will be headed by the Telecom Secretary, who will serve as the ex-officio Chairperson, with the Additional Secretary (T) as the Vice-Chairperson.

The NCA will operate as a single unit for all purposes, including budget and transfers, with campuses located in Ghaziabad and Ghitorni. The aim of the NCA is to enhance integration and efficiency in training, optimize resources, and provide a holistic approach to skill-building in the communications sector.

The new academy will feature shared facilities, faculty, and technology to improve learning experiences. It is expected to boost collaborative and interdisciplinary research and innovation. The Chairperson of the NCA will have overall control and will be responsible for budget allocations, training plans, curriculum, and other operational decisions.

The Governing Council of the NCA will handle strategic, policy, budget, and other significant matters related to the academy’s operations and growth, ensuring it meets the evolving needs of the telecom sector.
