India’s New BioE3 Policy: Boosting Biomanufacturing and Green Growth

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the ‘BioE3 (Biotechnology for Economy, Environment and Employment) Policy’ to foster high-performance biomanufacturing in India. Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the policy after a cabinet meeting on Saturday.

The new policy aims to provide innovation-driven support for research, development, and entrepreneurship across various sectors. It will accelerate technology development and commercialization by establishing biomanufacturing hubs, Bio-Al hubs, and Biofoundries.

The BioE3 Policy will prioritize regenerative bioeconomy models for green growth, expand India’s skilled workforce, and create new jobs. It will also strengthen government initiatives like the ‘Net Zero’ carbon economy and ‘Lifestyle for Environment’, promoting a circular bioeconomy and steering India towards sustainable and innovative growth.
