On the first day of the Paris Olympics 2024, Indian athletes had mixed results.

Shooting

In the 10 Metre Air Rifle Mixed Team event, Indian pairs Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, and Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, did not advance to the medal matches. In the Men’s 10 Metre Air Pistol, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Cheema also failed to reach the finals. However, Manu Bhaker finished third in the Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol qualification, advancing to the finals, while Rhythm Sangwan finished 15th and did not qualify.

Badminton

In Men’s Singles, Lakshya Sen defeated Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in straight sets. In Men’s Doubles, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won against France’s Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar. However, in Women’s Doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto lost to South Korea’s Kim So Yeong and Kong Hee Yong.

Hockey

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team started strong with a 3-2 win against New Zealand, thanks to goals by Mandeep Singh, Vivek Sagar Prasad, and Harmanpreet Singh.

Table Tennis

Harmeet Desai advanced to the Round of 64 in Men’s Singles after defeating Jordan’s Zaid Abo Yaman.

Boxing

Preeti Pawar moved to the Round of 16 in Women’s 54 kg boxing after a comeback win against Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh.

Rowing

Balraj Panwar finished fourth in his heat race, missing out on direct qualification to the quarterfinals.
