On Tuesday, India’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, met with Bangladesh’s Planning and Education Advisor, Wahiduddin Mahmud. They discussed various initiatives, including people-centric connectivity and scholarships offered by India to Bangladeshi students to study in premier Indian institutions.

During a period of political unrest in Bangladesh, marked by the ouster of Sheikh Hasina and the establishment of an interim government, Verma has been actively engaging with key figures in Bangladesh. Earlier this month, he met with Bangladeshi Home and Agriculture Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury to discuss security cooperation between the two countries.

In August, Verma paid an introductory visit to Professor Muhammad Yunus, the head of Bangladesh’s interim government, and reiterated India’s commitment to working with Bangladesh for peace, security, and development. The High Commission of India in Bangladesh shared this update on social media.

Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain emphasized the interim government’s efforts to protect all citizens, including minorities like Hindus, amidst reports of violence. He also met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar during the 79th United Nations General Assembly session in New York.
