India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar Talks About Relations with Bangladesh and Maldives
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar discussed India’s relationships with Bangladesh and Maldives at the release of Ambassador Rajiv Sikri’s new book, Strategic Conundrums: Reshaping India’s Foreign Policy. He emphasized the need for mutual interests with Bangladesh and acknowledged the political changes that can be disruptive.
Regarding Maldives, Jaishankar noted the ups and downs in the relationship and highlighted India’s role as a steadying force, especially during economic challenges. He mentioned that during his recent visit to Maldives, he realized the island’s relationship with India is crucial as they face economic challenges.
On August 11, Maldivian Democratic Party President Abdulla Shahid met with Jaishankar in Male, expressing confidence that India will always be the first to assist the Maldives in times of need.
