India’s First LCA Mark 1A Fighter Jet to be Delivered by August 15: HAL Aims for Timely Supply

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is working to deliver the first LCA Mark 1A fighter jet to the Indian Air Force by August 15 this year. The delivery has faced delays due to software issues and engine supply problems. However, American engine maker GE has assured to start supplying GE-404 engines by September-October.

The Indian Air Force is keen on receiving a fully integrated aircraft with all specified features. Top officials, including the Chief of Air Staff, are closely monitoring the project’s progress. The Deputy Chief of Air Staff recently visited HAL hangars to review the program.

The LCA Mark 1A project, initiated under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to replace older MiG-21s, MiG-23s, and MiG-27s. An order worth Rs 48,000 crore for 83 jets has been placed, with another order for 97 jets worth Rs 65,000 crore expected by the end of this financial year.

This indigenous fighter aircraft program is a significant step towards self-reliance in the military sector and is expected to provide substantial business opportunities for small and medium enterprises in the defense sector. Prime Minister Modi has been actively promoting the revival of HAL, which has received orders for various indigenous aircraft and helicopters.
