India’s First Dedicated Railway Test Track in Rajasthan
A new railway test track is being built in Rajasthan, India, to test high-speed trains and rolling stock. This 60 km track, expected to be completed by December 2025, will allow for comprehensive testing of trains, including bullet trains at speeds up to 230 kmph. The track features various curves for testing train performance at different speeds.
Project Details
The test track is located between Gudha and Thathana Mithdi in the Nawa region of Rajasthan, passing through Sambhar Lake. The project, costing Rs 820 crore, includes seven large bridges, 129 small bridges, and four stations. The track is designed to test speed, stability, safety, and accident resistance of trains.
Technological Advancements
New technology has been used to make the bridges vibration-resistant, using stainless steel to prevent rust in the alkaline environment of Sambhar. The track will also allow neighboring countries to test their trains.
Future Testing
In addition to bullet trains, high-speed, semi-high-speed, and metro trains will be tested. The Resource Design Standard Organization (RDSO) will oversee the trials, ensuring all safety and performance parameters are met.
Doubts Revealed
Dedicated Railway Test Track -: A dedicated railway test track is a special railway line built just for testing trains. It is not used for regular passenger or goods trains, but to try out new trains and technologies.
Rajasthan -: Rajasthan is a state in the northwestern part of India. It is known for its deserts, palaces, and rich history.
High-Speed Trains -: High-speed trains are trains that travel much faster than regular trains. They can go at speeds of over 200 kilometers per hour, making travel quicker.
Bullet Trains -: Bullet trains are a type of high-speed train that are very fast and look sleek, like a bullet. They are famous in countries like Japan and are being tested in India.
230 kmph -: 230 kmph means 230 kilometers per hour. It is a measure of speed, showing how fast something is moving.
Rs 820 crore -: Rs 820 crore is a way to say 820 crore rupees, which is a large amount of money in Indian currency. It is used to show the cost of the project.
Resource Design Standard Organization (RDSO) -: The Resource Design Standard Organization, or RDSO, is a part of Indian Railways. It is responsible for making sure that trains and tracks are safe and work well.
