India’s eShram Portal Registers Over 30 Crore Unorganised Workers in Three Years

The Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE) in India launched the eShram portal on August 26, 2021. In just three years, the portal has registered more than 30 crore unorganised workers, showing its rapid adoption.

According to an official release, this achievement highlights the social impact and the government’s commitment to supporting unorganised workers across the country. The government aims to establish the eShram portal as a ‘one-stop solution’ for unorganised workers.

During the Budget Speech 2024-25, it was announced that the eShram portal would be integrated with other portals to facilitate access to various social security schemes. This initiative will help unorganised workers access government schemes more easily and create awareness about these schemes.

As part of the ‘eShram–One Stop Solution’ project, MoLE is working to integrate major schemes like Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Ayushman Bharat–Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), Pradhan Mantri Street Vendor’s Atmanirbhar Nidhi (PM-SVANidhi), Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G), and the Ration Card scheme.

A two-way integration of the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) and eShram is also a focus area, allowing registrants to access services from both portals seamlessly.

To ensure that welfare schemes reach all workers, including health workers like ASHA and Anganwadi workers, and those in villages and construction projects, regular inter-ministerial meetings are held. Ministries and departments are requested to integrate their schemes with the eShram portal for the comprehensive development of unorganised workers.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment has approached various ministries to register unorganised workers under their ambit on the eShram portal as soon as possible.
