India’s Cricket Team Stuck in Barbados Due to Hurricane Beryl, New Players Added for Zimbabwe T20Is
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that Sai Sudarshan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana will replace Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal for the first two T20I matches against Zimbabwe. The first match of the series will be held on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, with the final match on July 14 at the same venue.
Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were part of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 squad, are currently stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane has caused flight cancellations and a lockdown in Barbados, delaying the team’s departure.
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, who is with the team, mentioned that they are waiting for travel plans to be clear before thinking about any felicitation. The squad for the T20I series against Zimbabwe includes Shubman Gill as captain, with other notable players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Abhishek Sharma, and Rinku Singh.
Zimbabwe has also announced their squad for the series, led by Sikandar Raza. The team includes young talents like Antum Naqvi, who has impressive domestic cricket statistics. Zimbabwe aims to rebuild under new head coach Justin Sammons after failing to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024.
