India’s Cricket Team Heads to Zimbabwe for T20I Series
Shubman Gill Leads the Squad
The Indian cricket team left for Zimbabwe early Tuesday morning for a five-game T20I series. The first match will be held on July 6 at the Harare Sports Club, with the final game on July 14 at the same venue.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared pictures of the players, including Abhishek Sharma, Mukesh Kumar, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, and Riyan Parag, departing for Zimbabwe. Former cricketer and National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman will be the head coach for this tour.
Shubman Gill has been named the captain for the tour. The squad includes Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson from the main T20 World Cup team, while the rest of the World Cup squad has been rested. Players like Rinku Singh, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed, who are in the reserves for the T20 World Cup, have also been included.
Zimbabwe’s Squad
Zimbabwe announced their squad for the series against India, featuring a young team with an average age of 27. The squad includes Belgian-born Antum Naqvi, pending confirmation of his citizenship status. Sikandar Raza, at 38, will lead the team, with Luke Jongwe as one of the more experienced players.
