India’s Call for UN Security Council Reforms at the Summit of the Future

India’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Parvathaneni Harish, expressed concerns that the inter-governmental negotiations for the ‘Summit of the Future’ did not adequately address the need for UN Security Council reforms and expansion. He emphasized India’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable development, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision.

India’s Vision for Global Governance

Ambassador Harish highlighted India’s active role in consultations for the action-oriented document, advocating for a human-centric approach and amplifying the voice of the Global South. He stressed the importance of addressing human welfare, food security, health security, energy security, and climate finance.

Reforming International Financial Systems

Harish noted progress in reforming international financial architecture but called for further action. He mentioned the G20 New Delhi leaders’ declaration, which aligns with the pact for a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient financial system.

Condemning Terrorism and Supporting Digital Governance

India appreciates the pact’s strong stance against terrorism and supports global digital governance. Harish emphasized the need for a comprehensive framework for digital public infrastructure development.
