Quarterfinals Recap

India’s badminton team put up a strong fight against Malaysia in the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships but lost 2-3 in the quarterfinals. The players will now participate in the individual championship starting Wednesday.

Match Highlights

In the quarterfinals, India made a change in the mixed doubles event, with Sanskar Saraswat and Shravani Walekar leading the charge. The duo won 21-16, 13-21, 21-17 against Kang Khai Xing and Noraqilha Maisarah. Tanvi Sharma then doubled India’s lead by defeating Siti Zulaikha 21-15, 15-21, 22-20 in girls’ singles.

However, Pranay Shettigar lost to Muhammad Faiq 15-21, 21-18, 21-19. Walekar and Navya Kanderi were defeated by Bui Ong Xin Yee and Carmen Ting 16-21, 15-21, and Bhargav Ram and Arsh Mohammad lost to Kang and Aaron Tai 18-21, 10-21.

Team’s Performance

Despite the loss, the team showed promise. Tanvi Sharma remained unbeaten in all her matches, and Navya Kanderi also remained unbeaten against Indonesia in the group stage. Badminton Association of India secretary Sanjay Mishra expressed happiness with the team’s performance and is optimistic about their chances in the individual events.
