Chateauroux, France – India’s para-shooters Rudransh Khandelwal and Nihal Singh were unable to qualify for the P4-mixed 50m pistol SH1 final at the Paris Paralympics. Nihal finished in 19th place with a score of 522, while Rudransh finished 22nd with a score of 517.

Avani Lekhara, another Indian shooter, also missed out on a medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3P SH1 final. Germany’s Natascha Hiltrop won the gold medal with 456.5 points, Slovakia’s Veronika Vadovicova took silver with 456.1 points, and China’s Zhang Cuiping earned bronze with 446.0 points.

Avani, who had previously won gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final, was aiming to become the second Indian athlete to win two medals at the Paris Paralympics. She started strong, tying for first place after the first series in the kneeling position. However, she dropped to fifth place after the second series and finished the kneeling stage with 150.9 points, trailing behind Zhang Cuiping.

In the prone stage, Avani initially dropped to third place and then to sixth after the second series, ending the prone stage with 301.5 points. During the standing stage, she struggled and finished in fifth place with a total score of 420.6 points.

India has so far won four medals in shooting at the Paris Paralympics: Avani Lekhara’s gold, Mona Agarwal’s bronze, Manish Narwal’s silver, and Rubina Francis’s bronze. The Indian team has made history by surpassing their previous highest medal tally of 19 from the Tokyo Paralympics, with a current total of 21 medals and more opportunities to increase this count.
