India’s Athletes Gear Up for Paris 2024 Olympics
Over 100 athletes from India will compete in 69 events across 16 sports at the Paris 2024 Olympics, which officially starts on July 26 in France. Some sports like football, rugby sevens, handball, and archery will begin before the opening ceremony.
India’s first event is the archery ranking rounds on July 25, featuring a six-member team including Deepika Kumari and Tarundeep Rai. India is coming off its most successful Olympic performance at Tokyo 2020, where they won seven medals.
Neeraj Chopra, who made history by winning the men’s javelin throw gold at Tokyo 2020, will defend his title on August 6 and 8. Other notable athletes include weightlifter Mirabai Chanu, badminton player PV Sindhu, and boxer Lovlina Borgohain.
The Indian men’s hockey team, which won bronze at Tokyo 2020, aims to continue their success in Paris. Legendary goalkeeper PR Sreejesh will retire after these games, making a medal a fitting farewell.
Young talents like hurdler Jyothi Yarraji, badminton stars Lakshya Sen, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, and Chirag Shetty, and world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen will also compete. Shooter Manu Bhaker hopes to overcome her Tokyo 2020 disappointment.
