India’s Ambassador Munu Mahawar Reviews Housing Projects in Maldives
India’s Ambassador to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar, recently reviewed the progress of social housing projects in Hulhumale’ Phase II. These projects are funded by India Exim Bank’s Buyer’s Credit scheme and involve the construction of 4000 flats.
In a post on X, the Indian High Commission in the Maldives shared, “India-Maldives Partnership for Development HC @AmbMunu reviewed progress of Social Housing Projects under @IndiaEximBank’s Buyer’s Credit scheme in which 4000 flats are being constructed in Hulhumale’ Phase II.”
Earlier in 2021, EXIM Bank of India signed agreements with Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) of the Maldives to provide approximately USD 227 million for the construction of these housing units. The project includes 2800 units with 3 bedrooms and 3 toilets, and 1200 units with 2 bedrooms and 2 toilets.
Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer congratulated S Jaishankar on his reappointment as India’s External Affairs Minister. Zameer expressed his eagerness to work closely with Jaishankar to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. Jaishankar responded positively, looking forward to enhanced cooperation.
Jaishankar also met Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in New Delhi, expressing hope for continued collaboration between India and the Maldives.
In May, Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives Munu Mahawar and Ahmed Naseer, Ambassador at Large, Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the India Maldives Review meeting. They reviewed Indian grant-funded community development projects in the Maldives, which include 65 projects worth MVR 360 million.
