India’s Akash Deep Shines, But Bangladesh Fights Back in Kanpur Test

On the opening day of the second Test at Green Park in Kanpur, India’s young pacer Akash Deep made early inroads, but Bangladesh bounced back with a strong partnership. By the end of the first session, Bangladesh posted a score of 74/2 with Mominul Haque and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto unbeaten with scores of 17 and 28, respectively.

Under overcast conditions, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj tried to make early breakthroughs. Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam managed to withstand the initial threat, with Zakir playing an anchor role and Shadman piling up runs. Despite being beaten several times, they got past the first eight overs.

Captain Rohit Sharma then brought in Ravichandran Ashwin and Akash Deep. Ashwin couldn’t get a wicket, but Akash Deep caused trouble for Bangladesh. In the ninth over, Akash dismissed Zakir Hasan with a stunning catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. He then removed Shadman Islam after a successful DRS review.

However, Bangladesh’s skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque steadied the innings with an unbeaten 45-run partnership. As rain started to fall, the ground was covered to protect the surface.
