Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has confirmed that Indian wrestlers will participate in the Senior World Wrestling Championship in Tirana, Albania, starting October 28. This decision comes despite ongoing court cases concerning wrestling governance in India. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of sports progress and assured that the court case would not hinder the athletes’ participation.

Sanjay Singh, President of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), stated that the Sports Ministry encouraged prioritizing athletes and national interests. Indian wrestlers expressed relief and satisfaction with the assurance of their participation. A female wrestler highlighted the significance of the championship and the relief felt by athletes and their families.

Earlier, the WFI had withdrawn the Indian team due to alleged interference by the Sports Ministry in its autonomy.
