Indian Stock Markets Shine: Dolat Capital Report Highlights Key Trends

New Delhi, India – Over the past 18 months, Indian stock markets have performed better than other emerging markets. This success is due to strong domestic investments and healthy earnings, according to a report by Dolat Capital.

Future Uncertainty

However, the report warns that this strong performance might not last. Upcoming economic decisions in the US could affect market valuations. The report states, “We also believe that the US macro data will keep a lid on the significant uptick on valuations from here on and till the end of this CY.” The impact on stocks will depend on whether the US economy has a soft or hard landing.

Optimism in Rural Consumption

The report is optimistic about a revival in Indian consumption, especially in rural areas. It expects a positive turnaround despite concerns like food inflation. “We revisit our bias on consumption recovery led by the rural doing better vs urban,” the report says. A good monsoon season is expected to boost agricultural income and spending.

Inflation and Employment

Inflation expectations are showing signs of stabilizing. The report notes that recent food inflation is seen as seasonal and is expected to normalize. Additionally, the government has announced new employment schemes in the July budget, aiming to create over 4.1 crore job opportunities over five years. The budget allocates Rs 2 lakh crore for these job-boosting measures.

Investment Strategies

Regarding investment strategies, the report suggests focusing on rural consumption, discretionary sectors like durables, selective pharma stocks, CNG plays in the energy sector, and chemicals. “We remain aligned to ride the earnings cycle which we believe has strength and triggers to ride through the FY25 and FY26 based on current environment,” the report concludes.
