Sathish Kumar Karunakaran’s Thrilling Victory
In Saarbrucken, Germany, Indian badminton player Sathish Kumar Karunakaran, seeded seventh, advanced to the second round of the Hylo Open 2024. He triumphed over Chirag Sen with scores of 20-22, 24-22, 21-17 in a match lasting over an hour. Despite losing the first game, Sathish made a strong comeback, saving a match point in the second game and securing victory with a streak of eight consecutive points in the decider. He will face England’s Harry Huang next.
Ayush Shetty’s Impressive Performance
Ayush Shetty, a bronze medalist at the Junior World Championships, also moved to the second round by defeating Finland’s Joakim Oldorff 21-12, 21-17. The 19-year-old will compete against Italy’s Giovanni Toti in the round of 16.

Tharun Mannepalli was defeated by Austria’s Collins Valentine Filimon with scores of 21-19, 21-19. In women’s singles, Keyura Mopati lost to Denmark’s Anna Siess Ryberg 21-8, 21-12.
