Indian Shooting Squad Announced for ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi

The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has revealed a 23-member Indian shooting squad for the upcoming International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Final. The event will take place at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi from October 13 to October 18.

Olympians in the Squad

The team includes nine members from the Paris 2024 Olympics, who returned with three bronze medals, and a total of 11 Olympians. These athletes will compete for the title of the best shooter of the year alongside the world’s top sport shooting athletes in 12 individual Olympic events.

Key Shooters

Four shooters have been directly selected by the ISSF based on their rankings:

  • Divyansh Singh Panwar (men’s 10m air rifle)
  • Sonam Uttam Maskar (women’s 10m air rifle)
  • Rhythm Sangwan (women’s 10m air pistol and 25m pistol)
  • Ganemat Sekhon (women’s skeet)

The rest of the team has been selected based on India’s domestic rankings.

Seasoned Shooters

Seasoned shooters and Olympians like Mairaj Ahmad Khan (men’s skeet) and Chain Singh (men’s 50m rifle 3 positions) will also represent India. Other notable Olympians in the squad include:

  • Arjun Babuta (men’s 10m air rifle)
  • Arjun Singh Cheema (men’s 10m air pistol)
  • Anish and Vijayveer Sidhu (men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol)
  • Shreyasi Singh and Rajeshwari Kumari (women’s trap)
  • Maheshwari Chauhan (women’s skeet)
  • Anant Jeet Singh Naruka (men’s skeet)

Rhythm Sangwan will be the only shooter to compete in two events.

Expectations and Excitement

Kr. Sultan Singh, Secretary General of NRAI, expressed high expectations for the team, stating, “We have a strong squad of proven performers for the ISSF year-ender and look forward to a strong performance. Expectations from the sport have reached sky-high after the Paris performance, and I am sure our world-class shooters are confident and excited to perform in front of home fans.”

The event promises three days of world-class sport shooting action as India takes on the world’s best in this season-ending showdown.
