Indian Sailors Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan Compete in Paris Olympics
Indian sailors Vishnu Saravanan and Nethra Kumanan ended their second day of the sailing campaign at the Paris Olympics outside the qualification zones in their respective dinghy races.
Vishnu Saravanan’s Performance
Asian Games medalist Vishnu Saravanan finished the day at the 19th spot in race four with 19 race points. He was at the 20th spot with 20 race points at the end of race three. In race one, he finished 10th among 43 competitors but slipped to the 34th spot in race two. Boats finishing between 1st and 10th at the end of race 10 will progress to the medal race.
Nethra Kumanan’s Performance
In the women’s dinghy competition, Nethra Kumanan ended race three at the 27th spot with 27 race points. She was at the 15th spot with 15 race points at the end of race two. On day one, she finished 6th with six race points in race one.
Olympic Quotas
Vishnu secured India’s first sailing quota for the 2024 Olympics in the men’s dinghy in January in Australia at the ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship 2024. He also won a bronze medal in the Asian Games Hangzhou last year. Nethra secured India’s second Paris 2024 Olympics quota in sailing during the Last Chance Regatta in Hyeres, France, in April. She finished fifth overall and earned her country a ticket to the Olympics by being the top performer among sailors from the Emerging Nations Program (ENP).
