Indian Railways Nears Completion of Bhairabi-Sairang Railway Project in Mizoram

Indian Railways is significantly contributing to the transformation of the northeastern states by executing several new railway line projects. One such project is the Bhairabi-Sairang Railway Project, which aims to connect Mizoram’s capital to the rest of the country.

Project Details

The project, which is 93% complete, involves constructing a 51.38 km new line divided into four sections: Bhairabi-Hortoki, Hortoki-Kawnpui, Kawnpui-Mualkhang, and Mualkhang-Sairang. It includes multiple tunnels and bridges, with 12,807 meters of tunneling work already finished. The project will feature 55 major bridges and 89 minor bridges, with most of the work completed.

Challenges and Benefits

Sabyasachi De, CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway, mentioned that the project faces challenges like tough terrain, heavy monsoons, and limited resources. However, once completed, it will enhance connectivity, boost local industries, and reduce travel time. The project will also support tourism and provide an uninterrupted supply of essential goods to Mizoram.

Future Impact

The new railway line will be a game changer for Mizoram, improving communication and commerce. It will also ensure a substantial cost reduction in transportation and help grow small-scale industries in the area.
