Indian Railways Enhances Services for Puja Festival
In response to the high demand for travel during the Puja festival, Indian Railways, under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) jurisdiction, has implemented significant measures to ensure safe and smooth transportation for passengers. This year, a record number of special trains have been operated, along with enhanced crowd management protocols.
Record Number of Special Trains
Indian Railways has increased its operations during the festival season, running 7,700 special trains in 2024, up from 4,500 last year. These trains facilitate travel to popular destinations across India. From October 1st to November 5th, 2024, approximately 65 lakh passengers were transported via special trains, and around 7.5 crore passengers traveled to key regions like Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand.
ECoR’s Efforts
Under ECoR’s jurisdiction, 657 special trains were managed between October 1st and November 10th, 2024. This includes 220 originating, 219 arriving, and 218 passing through ECoR. Over 3.33 lakh passengers were transported, including 2.16 lakh reserved and 1.16 lakh unreserved class passengers.
Enhanced Passenger Management
ECoR has implemented several measures to handle the influx of passengers efficiently. Additional ticketing counters have been set up to prevent overcrowding, and a strict queue system is in place. Security personnel, including the Railway Protection Force (RPF), ensure smooth passenger movement. A dedicated team of 50 RPF personnel oversees crowd control during peak hours, working closely with station staff to ensure timely train departures.
