Indian Racing Festival: Akhil Rabindra, Nikhil Bohra, and Neel Jani Lead Exciting Season
The Indian Racing Festival (IRF) is back with its biggest season yet, featuring top racers like Akhil Rabindra, Nikhil Bohra, and Swiss champion Neel Jani. This season will see both male and female racers competing in the world’s first gender-neutral franchise-based league, the Indian Racing League (IRL).
Star Racers and Teams
Akhil Rabindra, who made history in 2019 by being the only Asian selected by Aston Martin for their Racing Academy, and Neel Jani, a World Endurance Champion, will be leading the lineup. The IRL will feature 24 drivers split into six teams, each with four racers, including one female racer per team.
Exciting New Format
This season introduces new teams, a night race, and a unique format where two teammates share one car across five rounds. The highest-scoring pair will win the Car Championship, while the highest-scoring cars will win the Team Championship.
Returning Champions
Raoul Hyman and Sohil Shah, who won the 2023 Car Championship, will be returning. Shah expressed his excitement about the competitive nature of the league and the growing motorsports scene in India.
Female Racers
Six women racers will compete this season, including Fabienne Wohlwend and Gabriel Jilkova. Wohlwend, who finished second twice in IRL 2022, said participating in the league has been an incredible experience.
Rising Stars
The IRL also serves as a platform for rising stars like Ruhaan Alva, the youngest race winner, and debutant Julius Dinesen from Denmark.
Event Schedule
The Indian Racing League starts at the Madras International Circuit on August 24-25, followed by India’s first-ever night race at the Chennai Formula Racing Circuit on August 31-September 1. Teams include Kolkata Royal Tigers, Speed Demons Delhi, Goa Aces JA Racing, Hyderabad Blackbirds, Chennai Turbo Riders, and Bangalore Speedsters.
