Two Indian Navy women officers, Lt Cdr Roopa A and Lt Cdr Dilna K, are set to embark on an extraordinary sailing expedition to circumnavigate the globe aboard INSV Tarini, according to the Indian Navy.

Expedition Details

The logo for the expedition has been unveiled, featuring an octagonal shape representing the Indian Navy, a Sun symbolizing a celestial body, and a compass guiding the sailors through challenging seas.

The Indian Navy has been revitalizing its sailing tradition through efforts with Sail Training Ships INS Tarangini and INS Sudarshini, and previous circumnavigation missions on INSVs Mhadei and Tarini.

Preparation and Training

Lt Cdr Roopa A and Lt Cdr Dilna K have been preparing for this expedition for the last three years. They participated in a trans-oceanic expedition from Goa to Rio de Janeiro via Cape Town and back, and a sailing expedition from Goa to Port Blair and back in double-handed mode. They also completed a sortie from Goa to Port Louis, Mauritius, in dual-handed mode earlier this year.

The officers have been training rigorously, gaining thousands of miles of experience. They are being mentored by Cdr Abhilash Tomy (Retd.), a renowned circumnavigator and Golden Globe Race hero.
