Indian Navy Forms Task Forces to Boost Local Industry for Weapons and Equipment
The Indian Navy, under the leadership of Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, has established two task forces led by Rear Admiral-rank officers. These task forces are engaging with Indian manufacturers to identify and develop weapons systems and equipment that meet the Navy’s needs.
The officers leading this initiative come from both operational and technical branches. Admiral Tripathi himself has been visiting local industry facilities with Navy teams to review their manufacturing capabilities.
The Indian Navy is committed to indigenization, with almost all its warships and submarines being built in Indian shipyards. The Navy plans to place substantial orders with Indian industry and shipyards in the coming years, including Rs 1.6 lakh crore worth of submarines to address threats from China and Pakistan.
Additionally, the Navy is set to commission the last two warships being built in Russia, the Tushil and Tamal class, by February next year. These warships will be equipped with indigenous systems and equipment, despite delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
