Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi visited Bangladesh to enhance defence cooperation between the two nations. During his visit, he met with Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique, the Security Advisor to the Bangladesh Prime Minister, and discussed ways to strengthen their long-standing relations through defence cooperation. They highlighted the aligned visions of both countries, including Bangladesh’s Vision 2041 and India’s Vision 2047.

On July 2, Admiral Tripathi met with Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who appreciated India’s contribution to Bangladesh’s War of Liberation in 1971. Admiral Tripathi updated the Prime Minister on the progress of ongoing bilateral maritime engagements between the Indian and Bangladesh navies.

Admiral Tripathi also visited the National Defence College, where he interacted with the Commandant Lt Gen Md Saiful Alam, faculty, staff, and officers. He provided an overview of the security environment in the Indo-Pacific Region from a naval perspective and discussed opportunities for cooperation among like-minded nations to ensure a free, open, peaceful, and inclusive Indo-Pacific.

During his four-day visit from July 1-4, Admiral Tripathi is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with his Bangladeshi counterpart, Admiral M Nazmul Hassan, and review the Passing Out Parade at the Bangladesh Naval Academy in Chittagong on July 4. The visit aims to consolidate bilateral defence relations and explore new avenues for naval cooperation.

India and Bangladesh share strong bonds of history, language, and culture, reflecting an all-encompassing partnership based on sovereignty, equality, trust, and understanding.
