Indian Navy and Army Rush to Help After Landslide in Kerala’s Wayanad

A landslide hit Chooralmala in Wayanad, Kerala, following heavy rains, causing significant damage and leaving many people stranded. The Indian Navy team from Ezhimala Naval Base in Kannur has been dispatched to assist in rescue operations at the request of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Army and Air Force have also been mobilized to help, as the main bridge in Chooralmala collapsed. Congress MP Shafi Parambil reported that four houses were damaged, 12 families stranded, and one person missing.

Police drones and a dog squad will be used for search and rescue efforts. District Collector DR Meghashree confirmed that an Army platoon has reached Chooralmala, and the Madras Engineering Group from Bengaluru will implement alternative arrangements after the bridge collapse.

Kerala Minister MB Rajesh stated that 44 people have died, and rescue operations are being carried out on a ‘war footing.’ The Chief Minister is closely monitoring the situation, and 250 people have been rescued and moved to temporary shelters.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has mobilized Army forces for assistance. A control room has been set up for immediate relief, and a delegation of five ministers is being sent to oversee the ongoing efforts. Kerala Forest Minister AK Saseendran and other ministers are on-site to coordinate the response.
