The Indian Navy and Army are working together to rescue people affected by landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. An advanced light helicopter from INS Garuda, a naval air station in Kochi, airlifted 12 police personnel to the disaster area, which was not accessible by road.

The Indian Army found four people alive in the rubble, including two men and two women. One of the rescued women had leg difficulties and received medical attention. The Army’s Southern Command also made the Bailey Bridge at Choorlamal operational, allowing heavy machinery to move in for rescue operations.

Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed 308 deaths from the landslides that hit Wayanad on July 30. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, coordinated by the Army, NDRF, SDRF, and civil administration. The Indian Air Force will fly C-130 aircraft from Hindon Air Base to Wayanad, carrying specialized drone systems to look for people stuck under the soil.
