Indian Nationals Rescued from Scam Centre in Myanmar’s Myawaddy

Three more Indian nationals have been successfully rescued from a scam centre in Myawaddy, Myanmar, with the help of local and Union-level assistance. The Indian Embassy in Yangon has been actively pursuing the remaining cases.

According to the Indian Embassy in Myanmar, 23 Indians have been rescued since July 6, 2024, including two from Uttarakhand. The embassy shared this information on their official social media handle.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requested Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure the safe return of people from Uttarakhand stranded in Myanmar. He mentioned that the families of the victims are experiencing trouble and mental agony, and the incident has created fear among the people of Uttarakhand.

Eight Indian nationals, victims of a scam centre in Hpa Lu, Myawaddy, were successfully rescued and handed over to Myanmar police and immigration authorities. The Indian Embassy expressed gratitude to the Myanmar authorities and local support for their crucial role in the rescue operation.

The embassy also warned against fake job rackets that lure Indian youth through social media and other unverified sources.
