Indian Markets Face Volatility Amid Global Events and US Election

The Indian stock markets experienced selling pressure after gains on the Muhurat trading day. On Monday, the Nifty 50 index opened slightly higher by 11 points at 24,315.75, while the BSE Sensex fell by 10 points to 79,713. Both indices continued to decline in early trading.

Market experts predict a volatile week due to several global factors. Ajay Bagga, a Banking and Market Expert, highlighted four key events: the US Presidential Election on November 5th, a potential 0.25% rate cut by the Federal Reserve, OPEC+’s decision not to increase oil production, and Warren Buffett’s increased cash reserves at Berkshire Hathaway, signaling expected lower US markets.

In sectoral performance, the Nifty IT index dropped by 0.57%, while other indices saw gains. Among the Nifty 50 stocks, only 9 showed gains, with Mahindra & Mahindra leading at a 3% increase. Cipla, Tech Mahindra, and HCL Tech also gained, while Sun Pharma, Bajaj Auto, Infosys, and Adani Ports were top losers.

Several companies, including Indian Railway Finance Corp and IRCTC, are set to announce their quarterly results. In Asia, South Korea’s KOSPI index rose by 1.49%, while Japan’s Nikkei was closed for a holiday. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted saw marginal gains.
