The Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team had a fantastic start at the Sultan of Johor Cup in Johor Bahru, Malaysia, with a 4-2 victory against Japan. The match took place on Saturday and saw goals from Amir Ali, Gurjot Singh, Anand Sourabh Kushwaha, and Ankit Pal for India. Japan’s goals were scored by Tsubasa Tanaka and Rakusei Yamanaka.

Legendary former India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, now the coach of the Indian Junior Men’s Team, was delighted with the team’s performance. The game was intense from the beginning, with India playing aggressively and seeking early scoring opportunities. Amir Ali opened the scoring in the 12th minute, but Japan equalized through Tsubasa Tanaka in the 26th minute.

India regained the lead in the second half when Gurjot Singh scored in the 36th minute, assisted by Mohd Konain Dad. Anand Sourabh Kushwaha extended the lead to 3-1 with a powerful dragflick in the 44th minute. Ankit Pal added another goal in the 47th minute, putting India in a strong position.

Japan managed to score again in the 57th minute through Rakusei Yamanaka, but India maintained their lead to win 4-2. Despite some tense moments towards the end, India’s attackers continued to press for more goals, but Japan’s goalie Koki Origasa kept them at bay.
