Indian Envoy Munu Mahawar Meets Maldivian Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla

Indian High Commissioner to Maldives, Munu Mahawar, paid a courtesy call on Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament, Abdul Raheem Abdulla, on Thursday.

Earlier in June, Munu Mahawar reviewed the progress of social housing projects under India Exim Bank’s Buyer’s Credit scheme, which includes the construction of 4000 flats in Hulhumale’s Phase II. On June 10, Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met with Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, expressing hope for continued cooperation between New Delhi and Male.

In May, Munu Mahawar and Ahmed Naseer, Ambassador at Large for the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the India Maldives Review meeting. They assessed Indian grant-funded, high-impact community development projects in the Maldives, with India supporting 65 projects worth MVR 360 million.

Despite recent strains in India-Maldives relations following President Mohamed Muizzu’s promise to remove Indian troops, both nations continue to work together on important initiatives. Maldives Foreign Minister confirmed the replacement of 76 Indian military personnel with civilian staff from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited. Maldives Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon acknowledged the country’s current inability to operate the three aircraft donated by India.
