Indian Cricket Team Returns to Delhi After Winning T20 World Cup 2024

The Indian cricket team, led by skipper Rohit Sharma, arrived in Delhi on Thursday morning to a warm welcome from fans. The team had been delayed in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl, which had shut down the Grantley Adams International Airport for three days.

The flight, organized by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, departed on July 2 and landed in Delhi at around 6:00 AM. Fans cheered loudly, shouting ‘India India’ and the names of their favorite players as the team arrived.

Key players like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and head coach Rahul Dravid were seen at the ITC Maurya hotel, where the team will stay before meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A special cake featuring the T20 World Cup trophy will be cut at the hotel to celebrate the win.

India ended a 13-year ICC trophy drought by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs, helping India reach 176/7. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling restricted South Africa to 169/8. Bumrah was named ‘Player of the Tournament’ for his outstanding performance.

After meeting with PM Modi, the team will head to Mumbai for a grand celebratory parade, including an open-top bus ride from Marine Drive to the iconic Wankhede Stadium.
