Indian Coast Guard Rescues Injured Fisherman Near Kakinada
In a swift midnight operation, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) evacuated a 21-year-old fisherman named Thiru. Cheeranjeevi, who had sustained severe burns while fishing 183 km east of Kakinada. The fisherman was aboard the IFB Sengalamman, a Tamil Nadu registered fishing boat.
At 2 PM on August 6, the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Chennai informed the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai about the medical emergency. The ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar, which was on patrol, was immediately diverted to assist.
By 10:30 PM, the ICG Ship Samudra Paheredar arrived at the scene and evacuated the injured fisherman along with two attendants. The ship’s medical officer provided initial treatment before transferring the patient to ICG Ship C-430 for further transport to Kakinada.
The ship reached Kakinada at 8 AM the next day, and the fisherman was taken to Government Hospital Kakinada for further medical care. This timely rescue operation highlights the ICG’s dedication to helping fishermen in distress, in line with their motto ‘Vayam Rakshamah,’ meaning ‘WE PROTECT.’
