Indian Coast Guard Rescues Critically-Ill Patient from Agatti to Kerala

Indian Coast Guard’s Heroic Rescue Mission

Evacuation from Agatti, Lakshadweep

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) recently carried out a successful rescue operation, evacuating a critically-ill patient from Agatti in Lakshadweep. The patient was flown to Ernakulam city in Kerala for urgent medical care.

Details of the Operation

According to the Ministry of Defence, the 68-year-old patient was suffering from severe respiratory issues and required immediate evacuation. The operation was a coordinated effort involving the ICG district coast guard in Kochi, Lakshadweep Headquarters, and the island’s administration. A Dornier aircraft was deployed to transport the patient to General Hospital Ernakulam in Kochi, Kerala.

ICG’s Commitment to Safety

This swift action is part of the ICG’s ongoing support to the Lakshadweep administration and its residents, ensuring their safety and maintaining connectivity with the mainland. The ICG’s motto, ‘Vayam Rakshamah’ – We Protect, was upheld during this mission.

Previous Rescues

On November 12, the ICG also rescued an ill fisherman from a boat 60 km off the coast of Diu. The fisherman received first aid and was taken to a local hospital in Rajula for further treatment. Additionally, on June 28, the Indian Navy evacuated two critically ill patients, including a young child, from Agatti Island to Kochi.
