Indian Coast Guard Leads Coastal Security Exercise Sagar Kavach
Strengthening Maritime Security in Goa and Maharashtra
The Indian Coast Guard has initiated a two-day Coastal Security Exercise named Sagar Kavach 02/24, starting on Wednesday. This exercise is being conducted along the coastlines of Goa and Maharashtra, in collaboration with the Indian Navy, Customs, Coastal Police, CISF, MPA, Fisheries Department, and the Captain of Ports, State of Goa.
Objective of the Exercise
The primary goal of this comprehensive exercise is to bolster and enhance the coastal and maritime security of India. It involves multiple agencies and stakeholders working together along the entire coastline.
Simulating Realistic Scenarios
The exercise includes simulating realistic scenarios to test and improve collective responses to maritime security threats such as infiltration, smuggling, piracy, and natural disasters. Key participants include the Coast Guard, Navy, Marine Police, Customs, Port Authorities, and Fisheries Department.

This joint exercise showcases the commitment to safeguarding the coastline and protecting the nation’s maritime interests. Various drills and scenarios, including simulated terrorist threats, are conducted to revalidate standard operating procedures and enhance synergy among agencies. The aim is to achieve 100% effective patrolling along the coastline, identify gaps, and prevent potential threats.
