Indian Boxers, Including Lovlina Borgohain, Head to Germany for Olympic Training
Five Indian boxers are set to train at the Olympic Centre in Saarbrucken, Germany, from June 28 to July 22, in preparation for the Paris Olympics. The team includes world champion Nikhat Zareen, 2023 World Championships bronze medallist Nishant Dev, Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Preeti Pawar, and Jaismine Lamboria.
Amit Panghal, the 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medallist, will continue his training at the Sports Authority of India’s Shilaroo centre before joining the team in France.
The camp in Germany will allow the Indian boxers to spar with athletes from Ireland, USA, Mongolia, Germany, and Denmark, and acclimatize to weather conditions similar to those in Paris.
Hemanta Kumar Kalita, Secretary General of the Boxing Federation of India, stated that this training will be crucial for the boxers’ final preparations.
India has previously won three Olympic bronze medals in boxing, with Vijender Singh in 2008 and Mary Kom in 2012. Lovlina Borgohain aims to become the third Indian and second woman to win back-to-back Olympic medals.
