Indian Auto LPG Coalition Urges Prime Minister to Support Eco-Friendly Auto LPG

Indian Auto LPG Coalition Appeals for Support of Auto LPG

The Indian Auto LPG Coalition (IAC) has reached out to the Prime Minister, advocating for the endorsement of Auto LPG as an environmentally friendly fuel alternative. Suyash Gupta, Director General of IAC, emphasized the environmental and economic benefits of Auto LPG over traditional fuels.

Environmental Benefits of Auto LPG

Auto LPG is a clean-burning fuel that significantly reduces emissions of harmful pollutants, including particulate matter, nitrogen oxides, and carbon dioxide. It emits 20% less CO2 than petrol and 60% less than diesel, contributing to improved air quality and a reduced carbon footprint. This aligns with India’s international environmental commitments and sustainable development goals.

Economic Advantages

Auto LPG is approximately 40% cheaper than petrol, and converting a petrol vehicle to Auto LPG costs around Rs 30,000, which is lower than conversion costs for electric vehicles and CNG. India imports LPG from multiple countries, ensuring a stable supply chain and energy independence.

Call for Policy Support

The IAC has been advocating for cleaner fuel alternatives and seeks supportive fiscal policies to integrate Auto LPG into the national framework. Gupta highlighted the success of the Ujjwala Yojana in improving LPG infrastructure, ensuring a stable supply chain for Auto LPG. The coalition proposes tax incentives for manufacturers and a reduction in GST from 18% to 5% to make Auto LPG more affordable.

Global Growth

Globally, Auto LPG has seen substantial growth, with over 27 million vehicles using it and 25 million tonnes consumed annually. The IAC calls for greater inclusion of Auto LPG in national policies alongside electric vehicles and CNG.
