New Delhi, September 3: On Monday, Indian athletes delivered a record-breaking performance at the Paralympics, winning 8 medals, including 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes. This remarkable achievement showcased the determination and talent of Indian para-athletes on the global stage.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Congratulations

Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar expressed his admiration for the winners on X, saying, “Medals Monday, what a historic day we had at the Paris Paralympics yesterday. Indians, across various sports, won 8 medals, including 2 golds, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes. Congratulations to all the winners who flew the Indian flag high, making it the most memorable day ever for India at the Paralympics.”

Highlights of the Wins

Nithya Sre Sivan won her first-ever Paralympic medal by defeating Indonesia’s Rina Marlina in para-badminton. Nitesh clinched a gold medal in the men’s singles SL3 category by outplaying Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell. Murugesan secured a silver medal after a tough match against China’s Yang Qiu Xia. Manisha won a bronze medal by defeating Denmark’s Cathrine Rosengren.

In the men’s singles SL4 category, Suhas was defeated by France’s Lucas Mazur. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara won India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best score. Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event. Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1, while Rubina Francis won bronze in the P2 – Women’s 10m Air Pistol SH-1 final. Preeti Pal won two bronze medals in the 100m T35 and 200m T-35 races.

India’s Position

At the end of Day 5 of the Paralympics, India stands at 15th position in the medal tally with three gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals.
