Indian Army Signs Contract with QuNu Labs for Quantum Secure Key Technology
The Indian Army has signed its eighth procurement contract through Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) with QuNu Labs for the ‘Generation of Quantum Secure Key (Quantum Key Distribution)’ technology. The signing took place in the presence of Lt Gen NC Raja Subramani, Vice Chief of the Army Staff, at South Block, New Delhi.
QuNu Labs proposed a 200 km single hop Quantum Key Distribution in Open Challenge 2.0 under iDEX. This technology will replace algorithm-based encryption systems, enhancing security and optimizing manpower.
iDEX was launched by Prime Minister Modi on April 12, 2018, during Defence Expo India 2018. Its aim is to foster innovation and technological development in Defence and Aerospace by engaging R&D institutes, academia, industries, MSMEs, startups, and individual innovators. iDEX provides grants, funding, and support for R&D with potential for future adoption by Indian Defence and Aerospace organizations.
Currently, iDEX has 74 projects under various schemes, involving 77 startups developing state-of-the-art solutions for the Indian Army. The Army is already field-testing four delivered equipment from iDEX schemes, and further development will continue based on these results.
