Indian Army Rescues People After Cloudbursts in Himachal Pradesh

The Indian Army has quickly mobilized its resources to help with rescue operations after recent natural disasters in Himachal Pradesh. Cloudbursts and small landslides have significantly affected the districts of Shimla and Mandi.

Rescue Operations in Shimla

In Shimla, a cloudburst occurred in Samej village at around 2 am on Thursday, leading to the unfortunate loss of three lives and about 40 people reported missing. The Indian Army deployed three columns with 125 personnel, an Engineer Task Force, and a Medical Team of 20 personnel to assist. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Home Guards were also on the scene early in the morning.

Rescue Operations in Mandi

Another cloudburst occurred in Barot village, 70 kilometers northwest of Mandi, resulting in 10 people reported missing. The SDRF team is managing the situation, and a column is on standby at Mamun, ready to be deployed if needed.

Government Response

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu held an emergency meeting with senior state government officers to review the situation. Reports indicate that three cloudbursts struck Kullu district and one each in Mandi and Shimla districts. The Chief Minister reported that two bodies had been retrieved, more than 50 people were still missing, five roads and one national highway were blocked, and three bridges were damaged due to the cloudbursts and heavy rains.
