Indian Army Rescues 150 People from Landslide in Wayanad, Kerala

The Indian Army, along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), has rescued around 150 people from Mudakkayi village in Wayanad, Kerala, following a massive landslide. The rescued individuals have received medical aid and have been moved to safer locations.

The Army has deployed four columns with 225 personnel and has two more columns on standby in Thiruvananthapuram, ready to be airlifted if needed. A Command-and-Control center is being set up in Kozhikode to coordinate Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts.

Helicopter reconnaissance and damage assessments are ongoing to direct the rescue operations effectively. Additional resources, including search and rescue dog teams from Bangalore and Delhi, are being inducted. The ECHS Polyclinic in Kalpetta is providing medical support, including doctors, nursing assistants, and ambulance services.

Unfortunately, 108 people have lost their lives, and 128 have been injured due to the landslides in Meppadi, Wayanad. The injured are receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
