Indian Army Rehearses 21 Gun Salute at Red Fort for Independence Day

New Delhi, August 9: Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Indian Army personnel rehearsed a 21 Gun salute at Red Fort. Major Kaushik Sabnis explained that this ceremony is a gesture of pride and remembrance of the sacrifices of our forefathers.

Major Sabnis said, “It was a surreal experience and a matter of pride for the entire ceremonial battery to provide 21 gun salute on the occasion of Independence Day. This ceremony is not just a gesture of military precision but also a gesture of pride and remembrance of the sacrifices of our forefathers. We used seven light field guns for this firing day.”

He added, “This light field gun was developed by the Indian Ordnance Factory in 1982 and is approximately 1000 kg lighter than the normal Indian field gun. The 21 gun salute is part of three synchronous activities on the day, which includes the unfurling of the flag by the Prime Minister, playing of the national anthem by the Indian Condition band, and firing of the 21 gun salute. We fire 21 round gun salutes in 52 seconds.”

As India prepares to celebrate its 78th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to make the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign a mass movement by hoisting the national flag at their homes. PM Modi also changed his social media profile picture to the ‘Tricolour’ and encouraged everyone to do the same. He requested people to share their selfies with the national flag on the website https://harghartiranga.com.
