Details of the Encounter

Captain Deepak Singh, from the 48 Rashtriya Rifles, was leading a search party when he was fatally injured. The operation, which began on Tuesday, is still ongoing, with heavy firefighting reported. War-like stores have been recovered during the search.

High-Level Meeting on Terror Incidents

On the same day, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a crucial meeting to discuss the rising terror-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Key officials, including Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, attended the meeting at South Block.

Increased Security Ahead of Independence Day

Security forces across Jammu and Kashmir have been placed on high alert ahead of Independence Day to ensure public safety. This follows a recent increase in terror attacks in the region, including a gunfight in Anantnag on August 10, where two soldiers and a civilian were killed.

Up to July 21 this year, 28 people, including civilians and security personnel, were killed in 11 terror-related incidents and 24 counter-terror operations.
