Indian Army Helps Flood Victims in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh
The Indian Army has been actively involved in flood relief operations in the villages of Sivaguri in Dhemaji District, Assam, and Village Mer in East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, since June 29. These areas have been severely affected by continuous rains.
The Army deployed multiple flood relief columns and coordinated with the State Disaster Relief Forces (SDRF) to start relief operations early on June 29. Over 72 hours, they conducted rescue efforts in Sivaguri, Namsing Ghat, Paglam, and Orian Ghat, evacuating 48 people, including 17 children, 20 women, and 11 elderly citizens.
The Indian Army also set up temporary shelters and provided meals, water, and medical aid to those in need. Oken Tayeng, MLA of Mebo Constituency, and Tayi Taggu, DC of East Siang, witnessed the relief operations.
The local authorities and civilians have widely appreciated the Indian Army’s efforts, which have been crucial in reducing the impact of the floods and ensuring the safety and well-being of the affected population. The Army has been working closely with local administration and disaster response teams to provide immediate assistance and support.
